Toone up for WSL Goal of the Month award
Ella Toone’s brilliant match-winning strike for Manchester United Women against Leicester City has been shortlisted for the WSL's Goal of the Month award for April.
Our no.7's long-range effort into the top-right corner proved decisive as United Women triumphed 1-0 at the King Power Stadium in last Sunday’s clash.
Toone had only been on the pitch for 10 minutes as a substitute when she received the ball from Katie Zelem with her back to goal, before opening up a shooting angle and unleashing an unstoppable effort past goalkeeper Janina Leitzig.

Having earned the Reds all three points on the afternoon, Ella's 83rd-minute strike is now among eight contenders for the league’s monthly goal prize.

Her winner against Leicester capped off an impressive April for the England international, who was also instrumental in our Women's FA Cup semi-final victory over Chelsea.
It is not the first time Ella has produced a piece of magic with a long-range strike at the King Power Stadium.
The midfielder memorably powered home from distance in our 3-1 away victory over the Foxes in September 2021, albeit at the other end of the ground.
Supporters have until 10:00 BST on the morning of Monday 6 May to vote, with the winner set to be announced in due course.
