Erik approves of Bruno recognition

Erik ten Hag feels Bruno Fernandes's performances have improved over the course of the season, to the extent that he is a worthy winner of April's Player of the Month award.

The skipper beat off competition from Harry Maguire and Alejandro Garnacho to win the trophy for the second time this term, after also landing the individual honour in August.

After a stellar showing throughout last month, the captain will now look to continue his form in May, with four Premier League games and an Emirates FA Cup final to come for the Reds.

In his exclusive pre-match interview with club media, ahead of Monday's clash at Crystal Palace, the manager expressed his satisfaction with the skipper's contribution.

How does Bruno's April compare to the past?

Stats show why the Reds' skipper is a worthy recipient of our Player of the Month award.

"He is our captain and he works during the off season, so hard on the training ground, and he brings the energy in every game," Ten Hag told us. "Every occasion, he sets an example as a captain for the team and you see his form growing across the season.

"By the end of the season, he is in great form and he is scoring goals, making key actions with assists.

"I am really impressed with his performances, contributing to the team spirit but also individually with his creation. I am happy with his performances."

Fernandes is a doubt for the 20:00 BST kick-off at Selhurst Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Portugal international sustained a hand injury in the Emirates FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City but will no doubt be pulling out all the stops to be fit in time, as United face pressure from Newcastle United and Chelsea, in particular, for a place in European competition next season.
