Ten Hag: Mount could return at weekend

Thursday 25 April 2024 00:13

Manchester United claimed an eventful 4-2 victory over Sheffield United on Wednesday evening and Erik ten Hag was able to deliver further good news when he met with the media following the game.

The Premier League clash saw the Reds slip behind twice, responding quickly both times before taking the lead for the first time in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes was the key man in the second half, notching two goals of his own before turning provider when he set up Rasmus Hojlund for the final strike of the match.

Our captain, however, was not the only figure in the middle of the park on the agenda after the final whistle, as the Dutchman revealed that there could be another positive ahead of the weekend.

Ten Hag was quizzed on whether any defenders were due to return for our upcoming clash with Burnley on Saturday, with Casemiro having to again act as a makeshift centre-back for the entire encounter with the Blades on account of extensive injury list.

"No, not yet. We have to be patient for it," the Dutchman replied to BBC's Match of the Day. "For coming back for the game against Burnley, I don't expect [them]. Mason Mount, he will return, I think."

That would provide a boost for the manager's options ahead of the game with the Clarets, as Casemiro's adopted role means numbers are also reduced in midfield.

Mount last appeared in a short cameo at the end of our 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, and has since been sidelined for the Reds' previous two games.

United are back in Premier League action at Old Trafford this Saturday, where we will host Burnley in a 15:00 BST kick-off.
